SIMO LAAKKONEN

I studied political history at the University of Helsinki and completed my MSc thesis in 1991 about the emergence of the new labor movement (CUT, PT) which gained political power in Brazil at the end of the 20th century. I continued my studies in social and economic history and defended my PhD thesis on urban environmental history in 2001.

After that I worked as a researcher of the Academy of Finland, a Lecturer of Environmental Policy at the Department of Environmental Studies in Helsinki and as an acting Professor of Environmental Policy at the University of Joensuu in Eastern Finland.

I was also a Visiting Fellow at Södertörn University, the University of Stockholm and the University of Kansas.

Since 2010 I have worked as a Senior Lecturer of Landscape Studies and later as a director of the Degree Programme of Digital Culture, Landscape and Cultural Heritage at the University of Turku.

TOMAS LINHART

I graduated from an industrial high school in the field of automation, but then I decided to dive into the historical path.

I graduated from Monument Documentation at the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in the Czech town of Ústí nad Labem. I've deal with the preservation of monuments and proper archiving of all information about them.

I've studied in Modern History at the University of West Bohemia.

I went on a practical internship in Pori, Finland, where I came across Simo Laakkonen. Together we put together this project and the website. In addition, University Center of Pori and Satakunta Museum have provided valuable help.

IMPORTANT PHASES

THE IDEA IS BORN

The idea of researching scale models in European museums and their popularity among visitors was born in Pori, Finland.

The first step was to send the questionnaire to museums in the Czech Republic. Then we extended the research to other European countries.

The collected responses provided the base for planning this website.

THE WEBSITE IS BORN

In 2023, construction of the website started. Gradually, the website evolved into its current form including information not only about scale models, but also about related museums.

VIRTUAL MODELS IS BORN

In 2023, a new section was added to the website. The idea was to create a blog about virtual models that are only available on the internet.

A new section was created on this website - Virtual Models. This section provides information about these 3D models, links to them and a brief explanation of what a Virtual Model actually is. Naturally, various museums were again being contacted for permission to share their virtual models on our site.
