SCALE MODELS

A scale model is kind of a physical model which represents (or copy) an object that is larger or smaller than the actual size of the object. Scale models can include buildings, all types of vehicles, people or even science fiction themes (spaceships, robots etc.). Materials used to create models can be, for example, plastic, wood, paper etc. In our research we focus on so called historical scale models. That means we are focusing on scale models that represents whole towns (or just buildings in some cases) in latest centuries or before some kind of very destructive disaster (bombing during war, floods, fire etc.). Most of working on scale models is considered as a hobby and the scale model is made by one person, but there can be models made for Television and film production, Engineering (mostly architectural), Advertising etc.

Here is a table of model building skill levels:

This level table is considered for Hobby modelling.

For our research we are using scale models that belongs into Hobby or Architectural Engineering model production. Most of historical scale models are used in museum exhibitions for presenting the latest centuries of a city where the museum is located.
