ZÜRICH

Zürich is a largest city of Switzerland and capital of the canton of Zürich. Located in an Alpine setting at the northwestern end of Lake Zürich. This financial, cultural, and industrial centre stretches out between two forested chains of hills, about 60 km from the northern foothills of the Alps.

Zurich lies at the heart of an expanding metropolitan area that stretches across central, northern, and eastern Switzerland. It serves as the industrial, financial, and cultural hub of the country, renowned for its cosmopolitan atmosphere and vibrant energy. Throughout the city center, green spaces extend to the shores of Lake Zurich, adorned with picturesque public parks that ascend to the slopes of Zürichberg.

With a diverse ethnic makeup, Zurich's population includes a significant immigrant presence, comprising over one-third of its residents. Predominant immigrant groups hail from Italy, the Balkans, Portugal, and Germany, alongside a smaller community from non-European origins. The integration of immigrants, particularly those displaced by Balkan conflicts and others from non-European backgrounds, presented challenges, notably in the realms of education, as the 20th century drew to a close and the 21st century began.

The Swiss National Museum in Zürich provides displays models of single buildings, reconstructions of archaeological sites (excavated between the 19 to the mid-20th centuries) and temporary architecture.

The main model in the museum is the model which depicts the battle of Morat in 1476. This model presents the main six phases of the battle that have placed around the castle and the city of Morat. Visitors can use their own smartphones to download an application and display the augmented reality of the battle. On the model of battle of Murten is displayed a part of the city in the 15th century. The nucleus is relatively unchanged, but most of houses which today are preserved have been build in the 17th century. All of these models are integrated in the exhibition called "History of Switzerland".
